San Diego Humane Society (Humane Law Enforcement)

If your bite happened in the City of San Diego or several nearby cities, animal control is handled by San Diego Humane Society's Humane Law Enforcement division — a nonprofit under contract, not a county department. Their officers respond to bite calls, run quarantines, and keep the incident records.

How dog bite reports work here

Report the bite through San Diego Humane Society's dispatch line, or it may already exist via the mandatory physician report to the county. The investigating officer documents the dog, the owner, the dog's vaccination status, and how the attack happened.

The quarantine process

The dog is placed under the standard 10-day rabies observation, at home for owned, vaccinated dogs or at a Humane Society campus otherwise. The quarantine record confirms the health outcome and the owner's information.
